why we recommend golden hour portraits

Golden hour takes place approximately 60 minutes before sunset (this may vary based on actual location of venue). But we highly recommend scheduling at least 20-30 minutes worth of bride & groom portrait time during the golden hour, to make sure that you can have those magazine-worthy and romantically-lit images that are always our bride's favorite pictures from her day!

scheduling specific time for golden hour portraits in your wedding timeline are key for gorgeous & romantic images that you will love!!!

why is golden hour so amazing?

the location of the sun is key when it comes to
planning out golden hour!

Usually during your wedding day, wedding party portraits, your First Look, and Bride & Groom Pictures take place in the middle of the day - when the sun is highest. And while we do work very hard as photographers to put everyone is shade for some softer light, it is completely normal that the light in general is harsh!! So especially when it comes to the bride & groom images, we love waiting until the sun has dropped in the sky. You will notice, if you look at colors, that pictures become warm, golden, and almost creamy, which results in the portraits we at Lux Light Photography, are most known for! You will also have beautiful backlighting (where you are both bathed and highlighted in golden light) while capturing the sun rays and sunset at the same time. The result?? Pure magic!!

how do we schedule golden hour

follow these easy steps to know, when to
plan for golden hour portraits!

1. Check the specific sunset time for your exact location
2. Calculate the start of golden hour (subtract 60 minutes from your sunset time.) For example, if sunset is at 8:15pm....golden hour will be at 7:15 pm
3. Look at your reception timeline and decide, which is the most appropriate time to step away privately for this event. For example, to use the golden hour timeframe from above, if your First Dance is scheduled for 7:15pm, then I would plan on going out for your portraits immediately following the formal dances.
4. Inform your other vendors that you will be stepping away from your reception during this specific time (you don't want the DJ to play your favorite song when you are away!)
5. If you have any questions or if you'd like for me to calculate your exact timeline, PLEASE ASK ME! I am happy to put all of this info together for you, so you don't have to worry about a thing!
