How To Create a Plan B For Rain on Your Wedding Day

traverse city wedding photographer, northern michigan wedding photography

I know, I am committing a cardinal sin by placing the thoughts of rain and weddings in the same sentence, by alas ladies, if you are having any portion of your day outside, it will resolve a lot of stress in the immediate week before your wedding, if you take some time to create a Plan B for weather or rain on your wedding day.

But don’t despair! There are plenty of cute wedding trends for rainy days and wonderful wedding pictures that will capture the fun and spontaneity, but leave you feeling great about your day!

Follow these easy tips below to create the perfect plan B for your wedding should rain or weather occur.

1. Pay Attention to Weather Trends During Your Wedding Season

If you are getting married during the summer, pay attention to the climate and weather trends that have been previously occurring, Is it a warmer season than normal? More humidity? Windy? Oftentimes, the season can be fairly predictable, and even if you can’t pinpoint the weather on your exact wedding, you can at least get a sense of what might be normally expected so you can plan ahead!

2. Talk to Your Venue About Their Indoor Options

Most often, the time in between the ceremony and your arrival at the reception is a time for the wedding party to hang out together, to have fun, and to take these candid portraits with your wedding photographer. Usually these photos are taken outside, where you and your bridal party can walk around, get some fresh air, have some drinks, etc. So if bad weather hits, it is optimal to find some locations indoors that can be just as glamorous and fun for you guys!

You can even ask your venue for other indoor locations on their estate, that will match with the vibe and style of your wedding, and that will be able to fit everyone inside without being squished or stressed out!

3. Pack Back-up Shoes for Rain or Wet Conditions

If it does end up raining, many couples like to at least get a few photos of themselves, without the wedding party, outside. These are often fun, flirty, candid images that can truly be romantic between you and your hubby!

But to avoid discomfort, bring a second pair of shoes, recommended flats in case of slippery conditions, that can get wet. This way, you won’t ruin your expensive bridal shoes, and you will be comfortable during your reception.

4. Consider the Comfort of Your Guests

While you and your wedding party are out taking pictures, you also need to take your guests activities and levels of comfort into account. Find different activities not only outdoor, but also indoor option as well to entertain them while they wait for your arrival. These can include bars, ice cream parlors, coffee shops, local boutiques, tourist destinations, etc.

They will stay dry and comfortable, and thank you for creating activities that will keep the fun and wedding merriment going while you are away!

5. Collect Cute Props

Etsy is a wonderful resource for buying cute props that will work well in rain or bad weather for your wedding. Some of the cutest options I have seen are:

  • matching rain boots
  • parasols or cute umbrellas
  • complimentary cloaks or blankets to wrap around yourselves
  • vintage hair pieces

Find some fun, flirty pictures on pinterest for inspiration, and then wild on easy! Trust me, you will love it!

Following some of these easy, stress-free steps will result in a calmer and more fun Plan B for rain or bad weather on your wedding day.
