I get asked all the time, “why are you a wedding photographer?” Or perhaps even delving further, someone might inquire “you must like taking pretty pictures, right?” Why yes, oh Sherlock Holmes, I do like taking pretty pictures!! But it honestly goes so much deeper than simply that. Sure, I could give you the standard photog response: I knew since I was a young girl I wanted to take pictures; I’ve dreamt of my dream wedding since I was five years old; I like all the sparkly things; I am drawn to beauty…yada yada yada. That’s not to say these things aren’t true – because they are, let’s be honest I die every time I see a glam heel headed my way – but because a love affair like wedding photography is one that touches every element of my life. It is in the way that I plan out my time (and therefore, my life!) It shows itself in the way that I dress, the way that I view the world, and the way that I made friends. It has shaped my own marriage, when I had to learn that marriage should always come first in your life, above anything else (yes, even photography.) And just as importantly, it has shaped my cultivate creativity, so that I can continue to express it in unique ways and therefore, constantly challenge me.

So it was that I was delighted to partake in the gorgeous fine art photography styled shoot with the talented Kayla Barker and her vendor crew. Flying out to Texas was something I had never done before, but in the way of Barney from How I Met Your Mother, I say “Challenge Accepted.” To say that my jaw dropped when I walked into this curated venue is an understatement. Every detail was perfect, from the minimalistic invitation design, to the velvet drapes carefully swept into the rain water that created the perfect reflector. If I could photograph a styled wedding like this every day, I would!! No seriously, if anyone out there wants to collaborate, let’s do it!
