reception decor ideas for a tented wedding

The 3 Reception Decor Details You NEED For Your Wedding

When it comes to choosing your decor, your options are virtually endless. Pinterest does not help in this case, because there are almost too many options!

How to even choose?

Despite the overwhelm that all these options might incur, I have photographed over 200 weddings and can say without a doubt, that the best receptions always have three details in common.

Whether you are having an indoor reception or outdoor tented reception, here are three keys features you NEED to incorporate, to have an utterly gorgeous reception for your wedding!

ONE: Florals, florals, and more florals

The one thing you can never have enough of at your wedding (and especially your reception) are florals. Flowers and greenery are an easy way to truly upscale your wedding, add pops of color, and can lend luxury design that will help set your day apart, than any other wedding. Your average day will have a vase on the table with candles or a few botanicals. But to truly showcase your style, talk to your Florist for Wedding Stylist (or Coordinator) on how incorporating more florals can highlight your decor. Whether it’s florals hanging from the ceiling, draping across your gorgeous table linens, or highlighting a dessert table, the general rule of thumb is, the more florals the better!

TWO: Drapery

Renting drapery (white only) is a classy way to add volume and class to your wedding reception. Drapery that expands from the middle of the room, out to the sides, and then down to the floor, can soften the harsh lines of a ballroom or tent, and make everything appear softer, romantic, and more elegant. This is a MUST especially if you are in a ballroom, like a resort or hotel. Rental companies are great resources to ask for drapery, and can be a huge asset to the design of your day (and your pictures – I promise – will actually be better and more elegant too! Nothing is better for pictures that white drapery elegantly draping around your guests and table decor!)

THREE: Lights

Have you ever seen those pictures of a couple dancing, and they have this gorgeous, globe light silhouette them from behind? Wonder no more! This, in photography land, is called bokeh, and it is my favorite scene to have at a wedding reception. Lights (or even candles) provide this glob light, and the more the merrier! It provides your wedding images with golden, romantic light (instead of highlighted unnecessary details like tent walls or ceilings). This is the best way to illuminate your wedding reception tent. Quick Note: Hang lights wherever you can!! This includes the ceiling, down any poles, behind the head table, and even the sides of the room)

Incorporating one (or be my best friend and incorporate all) of these elements, and you will easily achieve a high-end, gorgeous wedding reception that you and your guests will never forget. As an added bonus – I suggest in a biased manner of course – they also all enhance your wedding images and will provide you with gorgeous pictures that you will love love LOVE!
